Disco Risqué

Disco Risqué
Welcome to the EVIL ERA!
Disco Risqué spent the past ten years discovering its live sound across the country; high energy tunes, screaming guitar solos, fast drum and bass breaks, big horn and keys riffs…they’d found their style. So in the summer of 2023 the band holed up to record what would become the defining recorded sound of Disco Risqué, an album known to the world now as Evil on Tape.
Recorded at Dave Matthews’ illustrious Haunted Hollow studios, Evil on Tape displays a total maturation of songwriting and arranging from the band. Delivering 5 singles including a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar” the album showcases a moodier, more serious and arguably romantic side of the band that listeners have likely not seen or heard before. You’ll still get a big chunk of the old school hairbrained progressive rock writes in songs like “Death Waltz” and “Ketamine Karate” but also a more focused serious side of the band with new singles like “Burnadetta” and the album’s eponymous single “Evil on Tape.”
However, not everything is new about Disco Risqué in 2024, you’ll still see the same familiar faces smiling down at you from the stage. Charlie Murchie (guitar), Robert “Slim” Prescott (Drums), Ryan “Swimsuit” Calonder (vocals/trumpet), Andrew “The Champ” Hollifield (Bass), and Sean Hodge (Keys) ARE Disco Risqué, and they’re out there keeping the funky rock n roll dance party of America alive! Keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground, cause they’re coming to a town near you!

Their eclectic performances are vulnerable yet bold, full to the brim with infectious energy and quirky camaraderie, and always tinged with Jersey sass and Virginia charm.
Lord Nelson

Lord Nelson
After several years of touring the country, playing clubs, barns, festivals, and everything in between, Lord Nelson set out to take a batch of road tested songs into the studio, with a very simple goal in mind: make a record that sounds like a bar show. Using a converted barn to track the record, guitarist Calloway Jones and collaborator Ivan Barry engineered two sessions across a few weeks, and the bones of an album were fitted into a suit.
With two previous studio records under their belt, the band were looking for a way to create a calling card for their boisterous live act, something that would bridge the gap between studio and performance. For the first time, this record features three writers and vocalists, with brothers Henry and Calloway Jones contributing to Kai Crowe-Getty’s set of songs. Rounding out the group are Andrew Hollifield and Niko Cvetanovich on bass, Johnny Stubblefield on drums, and Dave Pinto on pedal steel and harmonica. The collection of songs marks a wide range of stories and characters, but there is a creeping lightness that settles around the edges of what could be darker themes in other hands. From car crashes, murder, bank robberies, devotion, trucks in lakes, drug busts, and relationships, to hope, triumph, and over coming the odds, this record engages a wide view of the human experience.Seeking to move through recording quickly release the album so they could get back on the road, those plans came to a sudden halt with the pandemic, like the rest of the world. Does the world need this music now? Will it ever see the light of day? These were common thoughts over the preceding year. Finishing vocals in blanket forts, tracking guitars in an old farm house, and sending to friends to record parts enabled this process to grow and change slightly with the enforced break from touring. It allowed the band to pause and take in the songs and choices with a bit more thought. It changed the work and brought a reexamination. But ultimately, this record intends to bring people together. Dance, sing in the car, hum under your breath, crank up on the stereo, don’t take life too seriously for a few minutes. This January, Lord Nelson are finally ready to share their third full length album, Transmission. Thanks for tuning in.

The Currys

The Currys
The Currys have been staking their claim within the indie music scene since 2013, when vocalist/guitarist Tommy Curry quit his teaching job and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, to join the harmony-based folk-rock outfit newly formed by brother Jimmy Curry (vocals, guitar) and cousin Galen Curry (vocals, bass). The band have since written and released four full-length albums: their studio debut Follow (2014), called “eye-opening, but warmly familiar” by Earmilk, and whose title track is “one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard” (Todd Moe of NCPR); sophomore effort West of Here (2016), with its “tight-as-a-rubber-band” harmonies and “infectious” songwriting (PopMatters); and the expansive, self-produced This Side of the Glass (2019).
During the pandemic, The Currys took the opportunity to explore different avenues of creativity. In 2020 the trio launched a podcast, This Side of the Mic, to showcase songs and share some laughs and insights. The band leveraged their down-time into writing and demoing dozens of new tracks, polishing their production chops and collaborating with fellow creators to expand their sound. The singles they released through 2021, such as pop/R&B track “Man On the Side” and Graceland-inspired “Last Night,” pushed the boundaries of their previous catalog.
In the spring of 2023 the three Currys were joined by Sebastian Green (drums), Sam Whedon (guitar), and Alex Rees (keys) to begin production on their fourth studio album. Keepers, released in October 2023, represents another step in the band’s evolution, pairing the lush, three-part harmony that marks any Currys project with a more guitar-driven, indie pop aesthetic. The album pays homage to the band’s influences, with tracks evoking Sgt. Pepper’s, Jason Isbell, even dreamy pop-punk. Keepers is an honest next step for a group with an appetite for exploration and a long road ahead.

Üga Büga

Üga Büga
Hailing from Virginia, Üga Büga fuses influences like Mastodon, Soundgarden, High on Fire, and The Mars Volta into a genre-bending force of rock and heavy metal. This forceful sound is matched by fantastical lyrics of post-apocalyptic hog men, sinister wizards, and dual-wielding warriors tearing through landscapes on motorcycles—evoking scenes similar to the worlds of TMNT, Dragon Ball, and other classic comics and cartoons. Riding high after their 2024 debut album, Year of the Hog, landed on the Doom Charts, ÜGA BÜGA is set to unleash their next chapter, Valley of the Wolf, in the summer of 2025.
ÜGA BÜGA has built a reputation as a sonic outlier through relentless performances across the eastern US. Their high-energy shows have earned them opportunities to open for national touring acts like Nothing More, Darkest Hour, Castle Rat, King Buffalo, and many more, as well as festival plays such as Does It Doom’s Seismic Summer Fest and Doomed and Stoned Fest. Fans and peers have tried to use countless labels to describe their sound, the consensus always comes down to two words: unique and heavy. Their growing presence has even led to unique collaborations outside of music—most recently, teaming up with SuperFly Brewing Co. to create Supreme Truth, a beer named after one of their songs.
Formed in mid-2021, ÜGA BÜGA experimented with various lineups and styles before solidifying their current lineup in November 2022, featuring singer/guitarist Calloway Jones, bassist Niko Cvetanovich, and drummer Jimmy Czywczynski. This lineup infused their own diverse styles into a collection of songs written by Calloway Jones, reshaping them into a cohesive and undeniably heavier sound—one that would define their debut album, Year of the Hog. Now, the band writes collaboratively, with each member’s contributions playing a crucial role in shaping their evolving sound.
